The Flood 2022

Northern Rivers.

Damp Feet

In the days before the Flood we all had damp feet. There was a water theme PERVASIVE across the Northern Rivers with rain and more rain. IT FELT LIKE IT WOULD GO ON FOREVER.

Protection

Feeling like the rain will never stop and is inescapable . Thankful for a roof over our heads and for safe and warm loved ones.

Holding Lismore

On the night before the flood, feeling nervous for Lismore. THEY HAD BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE THOUGH! THEY WERE TOUGH AND FLOOD RESISTANT. STILL, I wanted to send a “hold tight” message to my people of Lismore with this Illustration.

Flood Stories

In the early hours of the Flood day, I was shocked to see a comment on Facebook; a man marooned in a house with his young family and pregnant wife. The water was up to their thighs, and the kids were panicking. Emergency services were not answering.
Over the coming hours, there were countless similar messages from desperate locals. One such was a call for help from a woman caught on her roof with her dog. Those stories were beyond anything we could imagine.

The Abandoned

With a dire lack of emergency services at the time of the flood and after, it became apparent to us all that Government would not be assisting in rescue and recovery in the way we expected. Anger at the authorities and a feeling of abandonment prevailed.

Lismore and the helpers

Community responded in such a remarkable way. This illustration represents the heart and the perseverance of the helpers
